Live location sharing lets authorized department members share their latest location with authorized station members while they respond to an active incident. It is designed for operational awareness—not continuous personal tracking.
How it works
Sharing requires all of these steps:
- The station authorizes the feature for selected members.
- The member enables live incident location sharing for their account.
- The member allows background location on their phone or tablet.
- For each active incident, the member chooses to respond and confirms Share Location.
Turning on the account setting or device permission does not start sharing. The member makes a separate choice for every incident. Sharing stops when the member stops it, arrives, becomes unavailable, signs out, loses authorization, or the incident closes. Command Bridge stores only the latest known position for the active share, not a route history.
Choose the department scope
Departments can use either approach:
- Department-wide: authorize all members who may respond, such as the full response roster.
- Limited group: authorize only selected people, such as apparatus operators, company officers, command staff, or other members who need live response visibility.
Authorization does not make anyone share automatically; each authorized member must still complete their own setup and consent for each incident.
Enable members
Station administrators can add the Live Location Sharing permission to the people who should be eligible. If your department needs a bulk change, email avl@commandbridge.app and include the department name, requested scope, and the name of an authorized administrator.
For a limited group, send the names or email addresses of the members to authorize and identify the intended group—for example, apparatus operators or officers.
Member setup
- Open Command Bridge and go to Profile.
- Open Device setup or the Live incident location settings.
- Review the disclosure, then enable Allow live incident location sharing.
- When prompted, allow Command Bridge to use location in the background. On iPhone/iPad, choose Always. On Android, choose Allow all the time.
- Return to Command Bridge and confirm that the device status says the location is ready.
If the member does not see the setting, the station permission may not have been added yet. Contact the department administrator or email avl@commandbridge.app.
Respond and share
- Open an active incident.
- Tap the green action button and choose Respond to Station or Respond to Scene.
- When Command Bridge asks Share live location?, review the disclosure.
- Tap Share Location to begin, or Not Now to respond without sharing.
While sharing, authorized incident users can see the member's latest response location and use it for operational awareness and arrival updates. To stop early, open the incident action sheet and choose the live-location control again, then stop sharing.
Live location is optional, limited to active incident response, and requires a fresh choice for each incident. Department authorization, account consent, device permission, and incident consent are separate controls.
